Okay, so I was eligible for an upgrade on Sprint last Friday.

The problem is that my parents don't want to spend over $100 on a phone, so I basically have three choices:

BlackBerry Curve 8500 (Black please, Wi-Fi enabled, app market ftw, but no touchscreen *sob) (And the fact that I've been an outspoken RIM hater for the past few months. So it'd be embarrassing to take back all the things I've said.)

Palm Pixi (No Wi-Fi?! webOS = love, and the small touchscreen = :( )

Palm Pre (I'd have to wait for a while until my parents let me whip out the green for it)

Maybe the Samsung Intercept (The Fascinate will kick it's shiny little bezel arse, but it WILL run Android 2.2)

And my parents are interested in the LG Lotus Elite (NO, NO NO)

what's your thoughts, fellow Apple fans? :) Or should I just stick with my mint condition Rumor 2?

The Pixi's keyboard is much easier to use than the Pre's--in my humble opinion. I think the Pixi form factor is ideal (same as my phone, an HTC S630).

Pixi gets my vote of the three, but the Blackberry isn't all bad--plus, free unlimited BBM is nice.

Isn't Sprint CDMA? And if Verizon isn't getting the CDMA then Sprint might be getting it

PS my 5 year old phone serves me well

I had a Pixi and liked it very much. Gave it to a member of my family (several have them) mostly because I wanted (needed? old guy!) a much larger screen.

Otherwise, it was handy having the keyboard always available, and of course WebOS is just a great multitasking system, solid and fun to use. The phone is very light and fits anywhere.

Not that many apps, but you can even learn to write your own if you're handy with HTML and Javascript.

I especially recommend getting a Touchstone charger if it doesn't come with one. Nothing more luxurious than just laying the Pixi on the charger block where it automatically goes into speaker mode if you answer.

When a message or mail comes in, the notification light softly pulsates so you can see it across a room.

Another vote for the BB, its one of the best phones of the bunch. My second choice would be the Palm Pre. Webos is nice and version 2 should be out soon.

first question is what do you want to use the phone for.

Blackberry is great as a communication device and by far great for its push email.

Pixi I have read people (even blackberry people) have stated that the keyboard is good. Not as nice as the gold standard of blackberry but right below it.

Another phone you could look at is Samsung Intercept. It is another galaxy S phone so with all the rebates it will work out to be $99.99. It was just released so it might give you want you want. It will be upgraded to at least android 2.2 or you could just root it. Fits your price requirement. Larger touch screen and so on.

I'm a big fan of the pixi... The name sucks but I liked the phone better than the blackberries I've used.

the 8530 isn't bad (unlike the GSM 8520, which inexplicably lacks both GPS and 3G...). But if you care about web browsing, the Pre is going to be by far your best choice.
