As per the subject title, webpages in Safari are frequently showing this message.

I suspect it is a Catalina issue... I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this?

Thanks.

I have an early 2015 MBA now with Catalina, and had that problem a number of time. I came to the conclusion (probably mistakenly) that somehow Safari or something was causing the problem by using too much memory. Believe it or not, I got the problem to go away by going to Systems Preferences, Accessibility, Display, and checking the transparency box. Probably a coincidence, but whatever!

An adblocker in Safari helps to keep the memory usage of some web pages under control.

The more background stuff a website has, the worse it is. I get that message more with Facebook than other sites.

Yes I have noticed that it does happen a lot on FB. And, I already have an AdBlocker - Wipr installed. Looks like I'll have to put up with it for now. Maybe it's the FB website...

I get it often while using Reddit. The scrolling starts lagging after that message comes up. And I just got it while scrolling down Yahoo news (which I don't remember happening before). Not watching any videos or anything. Found this thread by googling the issue.

I've been seeing this too from the current version and it all sounds linked to the other problems I've been seeing and the way Safari is cacheing it's cookies

"This webpage is using significant memory"

This has been around for years and multiple OS versions. It is normally an issue with the website. Dunno if it is worse on Catalina.

I have been noticing it more since I updated Safari to the latest version for Mojave. I rarely had the problem before the last update. I did not have a problem with my 2010 Mini running High Sierra.

True - see this:

I've been building a website that uses webGL to render maps of 3d terrain. After a few minutes of use, Safari never fails to display that message, using Sierra, Mojave and Catalina on a three different Macs. The site still works fine anyway. I don't get a message using Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Edge. I just wish Apple would give us the option to disable the warning, it's very annoying and since it's a bar across the top of the screen, the whole page shifts down when it appears

And it STILL is a problem under Big Sir (11.0.1). And it isn't just a notification - but Safari really does get bogged down - sometimes with just a single window open and nothing particularly intensive going on. Apple has REALLY dropped the ball on Safari development.

Same Thing Here, Really a pain when your trying to upload 25Gb's of work stuff to a TV Network Server and if Screen Sleep or saver come on Boom Safari reloads the page causing the Upload to halt! Such Fun. this on a 16" MBP with 64 GB's of RAM running Catalina even with shutting down every other Application and open Web Page.

Really ??

Yep. Getting it a lot on FB (usually, I'm only on their for a ST memes page). 2020 27" iMac, 32GB, Big Sur 11.1. It's pretty annoying!

No need to shout. This is exactly the problem, I have 64gb RAM in my 2018 Mini and get the same message. Apple doesn't seem interested in fixing this, so the only solution is to ignore the message or use a different browser. :(
