I was trying to unplug the pcie gpu cable from the back plane and It was kinda stuck (I didn't press hard enough the release tab) so when I was able to actually pull it out a little chip (VE001) that it's immediately above the plug just flew out of my back plane.

I tough for sure my Mac will not turn on or that once it turns on it will start smoking, to my surspire it did turn on and runs like normal

So I'm wondering what should I do
Just let it be
Or try to glue it back (soldering it)

Or what you guys think

What's that little chip for?
I have a dmg image of the asd for my mid 2012 but it seems that it's missing the Efi dmg image so I can't boot to diagnose my Mac. Do you have a copy?

I'm planning to install a second gpu r9 280x
So I wonder if I should stop that?

It's a voltage controller.
MP will run normally as long as you won't connect power cable to 1st connector. If you'll do that, computer won't start. So ask yourself if it needs to be fitted back into place or not ;)
BTW, you broke solder pads off of the board.
 
I had the wire plugged in the first port and It worked fine I moved it to the second one to take the picture
 
But was it connected to the card? One which I bought damaged in a such way, didn't want to start when GPU was feeded from the connector with missing regulator.
 
Very hard to fix. As long as part of trace can be located it may be possible. Sometimes they stop on top level and a little rivet looking spot takes the connection to a lower layer of PCB, if there is no metal to connect to then it is not fixable.

Probably easier to get a 2nd PSU for GPUs that fits in optical bay.

You guys shouldn't keep bugging him.

He has literally told you everything you need to know, bust out a voltmeter, soldering gun and some heat shrink tubing and be done with it. It isn't brain surgery.

I suppose you don't realize there are people in the world that don't have the knowledge you have yourself? Most people have no clue how to properly use a soldering IRON (a gun would be too much heat) or attempt such a repair.

Changing the oil in my car isn't brain surgery either, but I choose to take it somewhere to have it done instead of investing in the tools to do it myself.

Give the guy a break!

you are missing what i was referring too

several people have been asking sheep666 to write a guide to do a PSU mod

he has made it clear that once you open it up you will either know how to do it easily or it is beyond you

THAT is what I was referring too.

I don't think 99.9% of the world should or could attempt to fix that SOIC-8 chip

I am only well versed in that repair as a result of replacing a few thousand EEPROM chips which are identical. I have lifted a few traces in my time and know that repair is NOT for a beginner at all

sorry if you were not aware of actual conversation

my point on PSU mod is that if you are capable of doing it, it will be obvious and no "how to" is needed, if you aren't capable, a how to won't help
 
Im pretty sure that if there is a how to do it with pictures a lot of people will be able to do it. Including myself.

in fact i think it will be very good for macvidcards to do the guid since you need people to have more juice for the video cards. thats only my opinion tho. hope no one gets offended.

By the way, i found someone in a big city near me that can do the soldering (rework) of my mac pro chip for 10 USD hope it works ill report back when i get it done
