The Samsung Galaxy S4 may be coming to the UK with two variants one with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core chip and one with the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa eight-core.
A list has been published by SamMobile, which doesnt cite any sources, official or otherwise, for the information. But, the list does break down the Galaxy S4 distribution region-by-region. The listed models include the GT-I9500 and the GT-I9505, with the former believed to be the Exynos equipped model and the latter the Snapdragon 600 variant.
The UK has both versions listed, but its not clear whether itll be both models available or some state of indecision, the listing shows: GT-I9500/GT-I9505 United Kingdom, which could feasibly be an either-or scenario.
Samsung caused controversy by announcing the Galaxy S4 with the Exynos chip and saying this is the version which would come to the UK. It was already rumoured the US would get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 powered model. Samsung then did a 180 and announced the the UK would actually be getting the Snapdragon 600.
With this new information, however, it is once again unclear which versions will be available for UK buyers. Samsung has yet to comment on the newly leaked information.
I'll be getting the 4g version, from elsewhere if not released directly in the UK.
This is an amazing phone... Shame we have to leave iphone behind to get the latest technology.
Has this actually been stated that both are coming and are available sim free in the uk. ?
<source> ?
If its merely an assumption based on the leak list
See my post on the two Models
CPW confirmed to me this morning that there doing Both Phones the GT-I9500 is the 3G only and the GT-I9505 which is the 4G Version both will be sim free
The G4 is CPW (Carphone warhouse) First simm free Multi Network phone
Now also the 4G Version that Vodafone will do is the same model and will also be simm free as Vodafone does no longer Lock there Contract phones down
As of yet there is no confirmation that Vodafone will do the 3G only Model
Only going by what somebody has already asked carphone warehouse and a samsung store in london. Was mentioned on the vodafone forum.
O
Will go into carphone warehouse today and double check.
So nothing really concrete still. I think we're going to have to wait closer to retail to know for sure.
To be honest releasing two different SKU's in a single territory is a bit of a misstep. I mean the LTE capable version also runs at HDSP+ 3G speeds when there s no LTE coverage - so why bother releasing both in a territory in the first place.
I think it coud possibly be that Samsung hasn't decided, or in the listing of device/countries they were not separating Ireland from United Kingdom and it is Ireland and its carriers that will get the 3G (a 4G would be pointless here) only version. Again just hypothesis and we won't know until uk retailers clarify with 100% certainty.

To be honest carphonewarehouse retail staff wouldn't be privy to that much information at this stage. I doubt they would be able to definitivly state and will just be guessing as much as anyone else would be.
The Galaxy S 4 supports HSPA+42 Mbps and 4G LTE which means wherever you are in the world, you can rely on perfect connectivity. The LTE version supports up to 6 different band sets which allows it to function in most LTE coverage areas as well as enabling global LTE roaming
O2 in the UK sell both variants of the S3 (The 4G is marked up as an online exclusive though) so might do the same with the S4

I would be tempted to go with 4G.
going 4G is the best option as least when 4G comes out you can just switch from 3G to 4G...as you will still be able to use your 3G sim in a 4G phone.
I can see the UK getting both versions, I think smaller carriers such as Three which will get the 3G version to start with and then move over to the 4G version when there rollout starts.
3 a smaller carrier? Seriously? Think you might want to check that.
3 a smaller carrier? Seriously? Think you might want to check that.
I think you will find that if you look at market share charts for end of last year Three only had 13% of the market compared with EE which had 40%, Vodafone 22% and O2 25%.
So yes Three is a smaller carrier compared to the others.
13% and showing growth. EE is losing customers as is O2. Three also announces free 4g to all existing customers. They will carry the s4 4g I'd bet my life on it
Three will be carrying the 4G/LTE variant GT-i9505.
I tweeted at them asking which model and got this reply.
