I still currently am using the 9.7” pro with the Smart Keyboard, and while it’s still working, my iPad keeps making the charging noise when I prop up the iPad onto the keyboard. I’m starting to contemplate if I really want to spend the money on the new one that’ll be coming out (I imagine it’s not going to be cheap) or if I want to get the 10.5” and save some money, or even get the cheaper 9.7” and buying a Bluetooth keyboard with it.

I have a 10.5 and love it, but you should know that Apple will probably replace your keyboard on the 9.7" for free. They have a "secret" extended warranty due to the fact they have terrible reliability. (The repeating charging sound is one of the problems I had with the 9.7 and Smart Keyboard.)

Really? Because mine has some cosmetic damage to it too, but I didn’t bother contacting them because I figured it was out of warranty. Have had these for a little over 2 years. Does your 10.5” do it?

I will tell you my iPad 10.5 is literally my favorite device ever. I use it everyday as I no longer have a Mac Pro. Mainly for basic tasks and media consumption. I travel with it quite a bit as well. I do not plan to upgrade to a new one as my current device is perfect. Battery life is amazing.

Ahh, thanks for this. I hope they go on sale soon because I'll probably grab one.

I got a 10.5” 256GB cellular model with ASK and Pencil for $500 last month. It was only 4 months old at the time. There are amazing deals out there if you’re willing to go used.

I rarely use the Smart Keyboard on the 10.5. The 9.7 is work owned so I used the keyboard a lot more. I’d definitely inquire about replacement.

I love my 10.5 inch iPad Pro! It is my main media consumption device and I even get to use it as a lab book and word processing device on the go.

I’m planning on getting the new 10.5. I have last years 12.9. Which is great, it has replaced my MacBook for my particular needs & tasks. The only thing for me is after a year of carrying the 12.9 around I find that size a bit to awkward or cumbersome. A colleague of mine has the 10.5 and it’s perfect in size for my needs, fits in a smaller bag and has the power needed for my tasks. It’s hard to tell the size difference from the 9.7 but it’s just enough to where I didn’t feel the need to zoom in on certain PDF type documents we use. If you’re an artist though, I recommend the 12.9. More real estate for drawing, my wife praises it over the Wacom.

Just spend a little extra time in the store when the new ones launch. You know your work habits an personal needs. The 9.7 for most is perfect use for general practices. So if you want to save a little money it’s not bad. Don’t let the marketing sway your decision.

The pencil on the other hand. Get one if you don’t already have it. That to me was the best purchase I’ve made. It works so well I don’t have post its, notebooks, or pens now. Making my bag even lighter. I use the app notability which also has a voice recording feature. Helps with annotations and just going over meetings again if I missed jotting something down.

I had a iPad4 10.5 64Gb so i just bought a new iPadPro 10.5 64Gb put the 4 in bed room, i really like the new iPadPro really moves through the web pages quickly has a bright screen and take great pictures and great videos.
It's has a lot less weight my 4 weighs 23.15 Oz and is much thicker, the new iPpro weighs 16.45 Oz and is much thiner.

My 10.5 pro is incredible and has gotten used a ton since I got it in April for $450 during the sales. The screen is great, battery life fantastic and the A10X flies with 4gb of RAM and ios12. I sometimes think the 2018 9.7 would have done just fine but I don’t regret my purchase. The 64gb, laminated screen, 4gb of RAM and louder speakers are easily worth the extra $$$.

I love my 10.5. It’s basically the perfect balance between screen real estate, computing power, and portability. There’s no harm in waiting a few weeks to see what Apple may or may not be announcing. 10.5 prices will move in your favor by then.
If it weren’t for a few select things my MBA does on macOS that iOS can’t do yet, I’d love to be totally free of my MBA and just go full iPad Pro from here on out. My iPhone + MBA collect dust because of the iPad Pro 10.5 and my LTE Apple Watch.

Edit: I’m in a similar boat. I’m likely holding onto my 10.5 unless Apple unveils something mind blowing.

the 10.5 pro is the best iOS device apple has ever released. And I sold mine last week in anticipation of the new iPad and I'm actually missing it. In terms of upgrade over the 9.7 pro, I also had that device and while it was great, the difference in 10.5 size hits a sweet spot that you'll really enjoy. I gave my wife my 9.7 pro and every time I use it I'm shocked at the size difference.

I've owned my 10.5" IPP since they went on sale last year around the holidays. It's easily my favorite iDevice to use when I'm home. Plus, it's a great companion to travel with. It's not too heavy and it's great for media consumption IMO.

I probably will hold on to my IPP unless Apple introduces updated iPad's with some mind blowing feature.

Don't forget the 120Hz screen! Seriously the 120Hz Pro-Motion screens on the 2017 iPad Pros are their best feature.

Totally true. There are things like processors and RAM that show up as spec bumps on paper, but the refresh rate is something you actually experience when it's in your hand.

I'm waiting until November to either buy a refurbished 10.5 or get whatever is announced two weeks from now.

And that feature is not even available on these $5000 2018 MBP’s....

I like mine a lot. It was a big upgrade from an iPad Air. I don't use any external keyboards w/mine and don't plan to.

I still also have a mini 2 and am waiting for a refresh since I'm loathe to buy the long in the tooth mini 4.

It changed my life. I'm not joking. It had pencil support, was small enough to carry while I pace and think, but big enough that I didn't feel cramped writing or drawing on it. I'd owned a 9.7" one previously, and my wife owns the 12.9" one, but the 10.5 pro was the sweet spot for me.

It changed my life.

I can totally agree with that statement. My iPad Pro has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease! Mind you I am a simple user; web surfing, fantasy football, trip planning, video streaming, some document editing, and an occasional game (yet to fully test Rome Total War).

The screen is beautiful! Sound is clear and loud. No lag on anything (except for maybe what is caused by my wireless connection).

Again, I agree with kipwheeler, it has changed my life. I picked mine up as a refurb from Apple, have no regrets, and I am actually blown away by how awesome it has been! I fully recommend getting one. I will use mine until it stops working or I die.

I was coming from an iPad mini 2, so the upgrade was massive for me. I am beyond pleased, the screen is incredibly beautiful! I am very very pleased with it. I'm not going to upgrade when the new iPads come out, I'm happy with what I've got.
