Those who love their big screens.. Anybody tempted By a 5.5 iPhone?

Bigger screen is why I left iPhone in the first place but think I would miss the features, remove able battery, sd card and being able to have your phone how you want it but I'm certainly interested in seeing what it will come with. Doubt I ever leave the note line though. Will see

No I don't think I will be. When I briefly went back to the iPhone earlier this year I did miss the bigger screens that I'd become used to with android, however it was other features such as:

Customisability
Expandable storage
Better notifications
Advanced sharing options
Better media management
Removable battery
Filling system
Widgets

That I really missed. It's unlikely that Apple will address these things with ios8.

It's nice to see they've finally realised people want larger screens.

I'll look at the new iPhone (which'll be the first time in about 4yrs) but I can't imagine I'll actually buy one.

The biggest reason for me is lack of Swype - for me, it's the best feature on my phone.

I would also really miss the notification light - I love the fact I know if I've missed anything without switching on the phone.

I also prefer emails/texts etc showing in the toolbar rather than Apple's badges on the icons.

And widgets are a bit of a must for me now, too.

But, over all, I like the choice of phones I have and no longer having to jump when Apple tells me I need to.

I've seen the large Samsungs and frankly they are just too big...not a phone, not a tablet...something in between...A slightly larger screen would be okay, but not a big bulky product.

Pretty much this. Plus swipe typing, not having that is actually a deal breaker for me.

The iP6 will probably be gorgeous and have a few cool features, and I will feel the urge for sure, but ultimately it won't have what I need. Unless Apple surprises - for the first time in years.

On the other hand, Windows Phone is looking more and more tempting...

Hmm I sure will love a 5.5 iPhone but like someone mention I'm really liking swipe keyboard with SwiftKey and also default apps control and Dropbox just work a lot better on Android and that a huge deal to me, in the Note 3 case the stylus is awesome.

All of the above. And, of course, the Note's fabulous s pen. For Apple's rumored 5.5", I doubt Apple will include a stylus. For me, that's a big differentiating factor.

Like others have said, there is so much more customizing that Android offers that I doubt we'll see even with a highly revamped iOS8. However, even though I will not abandon the Note line, I am very interested to see what Apple comes up with.

Yeah, I think 4.3-4.7 inch iPhone would be very tempting. Bigger than that is too big for me.

We need competition in order to drive advances in our gadgets.

It's long over due, so I'm interested in seeing if they offer more than just oversized iPhone experience. Will there be stylus support, will there be phablet optimised apps etc....

There are certain things I missed about iPhone/iOS. Namely the camera, syncing/backing up and a couple of Siri related things.

I'd be tempted to move back to iPhone for the 4.7" screen. Probably not the 5.5" one.

But they'd have to actually impress me with it, and also if they just keep increasing the price, then basically forget it.

As I wrote in another thread, one area where they really could make a killing is in one handed use of a large phone. This is something which Samsung and others really haven't made any major effort with. Apple might come up with something that really works, which would open the phablet category to a new group of potential buyers.

That and synchronized use with the iWatch. Both together = the focus would be on how to make a large phone as easy to use as possible. Check notifications etc. on the watch, so you don't have to wiggle the phone out of that tight pocket. Software designed to make one handed use possible. "How a large screen phone was meant to be used." *cue Jony's face reaching hitherto unimagined levels of smug and super serious*

Aside from that I see the focus being primarily on media consumption and gaming + maybe a lot of camera stuff. I'm not sure how they would tackle Note-like productivity without either a stylus or swipe typing, both of which I bet they're too proud or stubborn to implement.

Generally speaking the devil is in the details and Apple is excellent with ensuring all the details are handled. I think a larger iPhone will be a draw for many of us on a 5" phone right now.

Things I wonder about such as Apple's love affair with thinness, the iPhone 5/5s are thin, so much so, there are threads about it getting bent. Will apple (as rumored) make this even thinner. A larger phone with an increased surface area and thinner is going to be even more bendable.

Another issue, is resolution, with Android there's different resolutions for phones, with the iPhone there is a set resolution, how will Apple handle this with different form factors?

Overall I'm interested, I'm in no rush, as I'm rocking with my Lumia Icon and its doing everything I ask of it. Cortana is better then Siri and WP8.1 is a great OS.

I think 5.5 inches is too big. 5 inches, or 4.7 inches, would make me happy, but I would be fine to stick with 4 inches for now.

I am interested too.....I don't think I will get one......that is just a little too big for me. But I want to see Apple's design and implementation on such a larger phone. Will it be just a larger iPhone? Or do they have something new a different to bring to their first offering into the phablet space? Stylus maybe?

I'd think about it. I'm also kinda attached to the fact that with my S5 I can use a micro SD card and store all my music on it without paying an additional $200 for a 64gb iPhone.

Oh and I'd also miss my notification light.

I definitely want to see what Apple releases in the fall.

Not even on the iPad, I'm afraid. Steve jobs himself stated stylii had been the past. (Of course they were resistive and not Wacom ones. Nevertheless, I don't think they'll add something that could confuse the vast majority of their customers / make using iOS more "complicated".)
