At the book store at my University there are two MBP's on display. One being the very first one made earlier in the year. The other just recently brought in. When I felt the back side of the older model I kid you not, the processor was so hot it could have burned my hand off. However the newer one was MUCH MUCH cooler. So there you have it. More proof that Apple must have done something right with cooling off there processors. Now Im going to bed. I feel much better about myself for doing a public service announcement.:)

Nice!

That means the "new new" (i.e. merom) ones must have better fetures to come, as Apple can spend less time worrying about heat, and more time thinking up new features! :D

Rich.

I couldn't care really if it burnt my hand off I always have it sitting on my desk..for others it may be important but not me. Even if I sit on the couch I have a tray to put it on. My Toshiba laptop was even hotter than this one and I just found a way around it.

Simply because it would overlap the market segment for the George Foreman MacBook Pro Grill.

I've always wanted to put an egg on the MBP to see if it will cook :p actually mine doesn't really run that hot at all. I got a week 28 model 2 weeks ago so I guess they have fixed a few of the probs in it.

how do you know the new one was a merom? my MBP is a core duo (aka not merom) and does not get unbearably hot. whatever change they made probably has nothing to do wtih the processor and was just a response to the complaints (i.e., perhaps a firmware update fixed the issue).

maybe the OP could confirm what processor was running by going back and checking the "About this Mac" profile.

I was refering to the MBP laptops that aren't out yet i.e. whenever in the next few weeks.

Dan :)

well this is good, maybe they'll take care of this the next time i send it in (nothing wrong with mine yet so far though)

Ironically I am not so much crazy over Merom, I just want the same easy access HD panel that's on the MB to be on the MBP. I'd be so happy when the MBP finally gets it :)
