I have the IPP 10.5 and use it to edit the majority of my photos, RAW and JPEG. My files are normally over 20MB and I mainly use Lightroom on the IPP. I have noticed in the last few months that the files can take a bit to load (I try not to use Smart Previews) but overall it isn’t a horrible performance by the 10.5.

I am curious how the new iPad Air would perform relative to the IPP 10.5. I don’t care about speakers and don’t really want the new IPP.

Would love to hear thoughts.. is the new processor/RAM capable of drastically better performance with Lightroom and Photoshop?

No, and the Air has less RAM, so it's even possible in certain circumstances the performance could get worse on the new Air.

If you really want performance, you need a 2018 Pro with Face ID.

I really don’t like the new iPad. It feels cheap.

How would a recent Macbook perform with Lightroom compared to the IPP 10.5? I am not against a refurb of one of these.
