What do you guys think about the new opera mini app on iphone? Im using it right now and I got to say... Its pretty cool :)

It's terrible. Reminds me of the bad old days. Can't believe Opera has made such little progress in the last three years.

I like the home screen option with the links to commonly used sites. Wish safari had something like that as well. Other than that I don't really see much of a reason to change.

ok, its fast. and speed dial/tabbing is cool. But out of the first few pages that I tested, like 3 out of 4 formatted crappy. Even macrumors looked terrible. Is this some setting issue? Or is Opera just a huge FAIL?

I like iy. Takes a little getting use to. U can change the font size to display whole page then zoom in or large fonts so its more readable but only part of the page is displayed.
The front page is very nice. Its like the desk top safari 'top sites'.

Ok, how could you, or anyone for that matter, like this? Its horrible. When you go to a page its virtually unreadable unless you zoom in. You cant even make anything out on the page. And I thought it was supposed to support flash? Mine doesnt.

Im sticking with Safari if this is the case.

Opera mini across all mobile platforms has never supported flash.

As for the text zoom at full screen being unreadable well the fact that it is designed so you can see the entire web page it is going to be pretty tiny. Even on safari at that full page view text is unreadable.

That full page mode is designed so you can find were you want to zoom in and read stuff.

You first need to learn how Opera mini was designed on other plateforms before you mindless go bashing it. It is designed to compress a web page to a smaller format and have the rendering load handled by a server then it just pretty much sends a very compress picture to your phone. These means web pages load faster because it is less data to deal with and the rendering load is handled by a full power desktop computer. Not the limited power of the hand held.

As for me personally I think it Opera mini is OK. I honestly never have been a huge fan of it on my blackberry and I have always preferred bolt on my blackberry over opera mini but that is just mean. As for my iPod touch it will depend on my mood which one I use. It takes some getting use to but it seems pretty well laid out and very fluid.

It's really interesting to finally use it on an iPhone. For years I used Opera on every phone I had because it was always better than the default browser. Then the iphone was released and I used Mobile Safari. It was a giant step up from what I was used to with Opera.

I've since used Opera on other phones because, in the case of WinMo 6.x and Android 1.x I thought it was a better alternative. I still thought Safari was superior but they were both on different platforms with bigger differences and problems than browsers so I just stopped comparing. Now, it's in the same OS and the same hardware and it's awful. Being on the great iPhone hardware doesn't make it any better to use at all. Yes, it's good for lessening data consumption but so is 'about:blank'.

for rendering issues, check out the settings before flaming.

make sure mobile view is "off"

Also people are moaning about pinch to zoom not working, it does work on full sites, sites optimized for mobile viewing will not zoom. but i guess people would rather winge than look at things..

Personally its great, I have hidden Safari icon now, and just use Opera. "speed dial", Tabs etc are great, not to mention the speed with the server rendering!

and before people moan about server rendering it doesn't go through the server for https sites so online banking etc is still as secure as using default safari!
