I went ahead and maxed mine out with the following configuration:

2.7GHz 12-core with 30MB of L3 cache

64GB (4x16GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC

1TB PCIe-based flash storage

Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each

I wanted a good computer to last me at least 6 years.
What do y'all think about my choice?

So you have basically just ticked the highest available options in the store for the Mac Pro.

You might actually want to give out what you will be using the machine for, as without that, then people can't really comment on it.

If going to be playing Games with a bit of iTunes Music, and Handbrake in the Background then is a big waste of money

If on the hand doing 4K Video Editing in FCP X, or other software that can use the hardware then could be a good choice.

My MBP 2008 is still going strong after 5 years, and I expect it too last me a few more years yet. However it has been SSD'ed and 8Gb RAM upgraded.
