Is it just me, or are these significantly better than the Lightning AirPods Pro 2?I’ve been an early adopter of the AirPods Pro models since their release. Normal AirPods plain and simple, don’t work for me. When the 1st Gen Pros came out in 2019, I stopped by the Apple Store on launch day and picked up a pair. That was a great set of AirPods and I still have them, sitting around unused.

I was so thrilled with them, that when the APP2 came out, I rushed to get them as well. I ordered them engraved, so I didn’t get them on launch day but got them as soon as they were shipped to me from Apple. I was quite disappointed in these. Horrible case battery drain, all sorts of wonky connecting issues, sometimes I’d put them in my ear & they’d do nothing, Find My also very often wouldn’t beep them. Overall very unreliable set of AirPods.

Which brings me to the point of this thread. When I got my 15 Pro Max, I knew I’d want the new APP2s w/ USB-C Case. I was hesitant, because these are advertised to be almost the exact same product as the APP2s w/ Lightning case. I didn’t want to spend another damn $250 on a third set of AirPods and them suck just as bad as the lightning 2Gs did. Thankfully, these have been MUCH better. No more battery drain on the case (or the buds for that matter), they always connect, no weird sound that makes them sound worse than my 1G, etc. Very consistent use so far.

Overall very happy with this purchase. I was skeptical, but thankfully these seem good. Some of this could be software related - I didn’t spend much time with my lighting 2Gs, but the reviews from others don’t seem overwhelmingly positive so I have a feeling these are secretly a bit tweaked by Apple to fix the last year of complaints with the lightning model.

Anyways, just thought I’d share.

I had a set of the original AirPods Pro, but bought the USB-C gen 2 versions when I bought my iPhone 15 Pro. They seem pretty close to the original versions. Noise cancelling seems a bit better. But happy not to have to juggle Lightning and UBS-C cables (though I do have AirPods Max which I'm in no rush to replace, however).

Yeah I’d agree with your assessment. I’ve had an iPad Pro for a few months and juggling cables is annoying. When I got the phone too, it just made too much sense to get the AirPods. Although, I actually used Apple Watch charging on my lightning 2G pros most of the time. But, the case on those got all beat up and scratched in that one year, so I’ve gone back to using a case (Pitaka MagEZ), which doesn’t work with the AW charger. So I’m back to using a cable, which makes me glad to have the USB-C version now.

Definitely happy with their performance so far, and how they’re basically very similar to how my Gen 1s were as far as reliability and consistency goes.
