I just felt I needed to post my total satisfaction with my C2D. After reading all of the issues and concerns here, my experience so far has been great.

Yesterday I received a call from the Grand Rapids Michigan store saying the had one in with my name on it. After picking it up, I ran the migration tool on coming from a Mini Mac I bought last year (wanted to test the Mac waters a bit before making the switch). The migration went fine without any major issues that I can tell so far.

Regarding the MBP, mine runs pretty cool, is quiet, no dead or stuck pixels, pretty even backlight on the LCD, fits together evenly, keyboard seems fine, etc. FWIW, matte display.

I really thought I might have second thoughts after getting it after reading all the posts. So far, so good.

Now I just need the 30" Apple monitor. :D

Totally agree with you..
I'm amazed by the speed of my MBP. Perfect screen, super fast hard drive, I'm getting about 5 hours battery life. So very happy!

Front Row is sweet too...

Mind you I'm still wondering if I'm going to go broke over it but I've yet to find a reason to regret my purchase!

Just picked up 17"

I just went to the Apple Store and returned a new MacBook -- didn't like the glossy screen. I asked if they had any new 17" C2D's, knowing they would not -- the salesperson went in and brought out one! Needless to say, I bought it (matte, not glossy). So far, I'm extremely impressed. It is a MUCH better computer than the MacBook, IMHO. Of course, it costs twice as much, but you get what you pay for. My only quibble: on the MacBook, it's easy to replace the hard disk. You can't on the MBP. But the screen is SO much better, and the whole machine has a far more finished and elegant feel. It is quite fast, and much cooler than the MB.

So far, so good on my end too.

(And I picked up a 30" display to go with it. HIGHLY recommended. Drove my productivity through the roof. I can't believe the impact.)
