I do not know what this is, recently its being in my activity monitor and running at 100% CPU non-stop. Any one have any idea? how to stop it? I did force quit it but comes back. I also restarted.

It is part of macOS’s Quick Look and creates the preview thumbnails. Try: open System Preferences>Trackpad> Point & Click and then unchecking Look up & data detectors. Additionally clearing the quick look cache via terminal, or something like Onyx or Tinkertool might help.

wow , you seem very knowledgable when it comes to MacOS.

But I want that feature, I use quick look and 3-tap to look up words extensively. I unchecked, did clear cache using the terminal and re-checked it in preferences. I hope it goes away now.

much thanks for the help

Sorry for replying so long after the thread started. I'm posting because I just ran into the issue today while running through a list of files in the Finder using my arrow keys. I happened to run across an extremely complicated 60 MB PDF file, and ThumbnailExtension_MacOS had been running at 90%+ for several minutes, though now it has settled down to normal. FWIW, the PDF file was an architectural blueprint for a scientific laboratory.
