macOS Thumbs?

Okay, ever since I installed Openbase to use with software I am developing, these mysterious files called "thumbs.db" apppear in the oddest places, and in places that have no relation whatsoever with Openbase. The picture below is a folder of Powerschool page mods I do using (generally) GoLive. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and what it might mean? Opening that file simply opens Openbase manager with no content. (second picture)

Thumbs.db is a file generated by Windows. Basically it includes thumbnails of all the pictures in the folder so it doesn't have to resize them every time you view the folders in explorer.

You can safely delete it.

On a Mac though? Openbase for Mac? I have Virtual PC on this, but rarely use it, instead I have a share point to my PC.... Here's another screen shot from Find... "encrypted" could be inreference to Blowfish 448-bit encryption algorithm I use in one app.... But still, no Windows involved.
So am I to assume that Openbase uses the same methods on a Mac as it does in Windows once installed on a Mac?
Also, visited your web site, and I like it's clean look. It's powered by Wordpress... have to check that out.

Wordpress is awesome, definately check them out.

As far as openbase, I believe it is just "guessing" based on the fact that the file ends in .db.

Do you ever access those folders from a PC (including Virtual PC) at all? And do they have pictures in them? Thumbs.db is kind of like .DS_Store for the mac in that you don't see those files until you transfer them over to another OS.

Any folder on your mac that you broswed from windows (over a network, for instance), will have thumbs.db generated. Its the same as how mac os x creates those annoying dot files on any server you browse from the finder.

Even on windows you can delete the thumbs file safely.

It is created when needed, so if you've seen one on your mac, it's safe to destroy

Thumbs.db holds the thumbnail images of all images in a certain folder in Windows. You can turn them off in Windows, but rarely anyone does.

Use vinetto to extract the images from them (Python script).
