Does anyone use Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client?

I would like to start using THunderbird for an email client for my business and personal email, but I want to keep things like the Address Book separate.

Can anyone speak to the pros/cons of using "Profiles"?

I use Thunderbird as a secondary e-mail client for certain mail accounts that I don't want to be distracted by in Apple Mail.

I don't know anything about Profiles which appear to segregate things like logins and passwords.

You can create multiple address books (locally) by opening up Thunderbird's address book then:

File > New > Address Book...

You can also uncheck Thunderbird's access to your macOS address book in this menu. I've used Thunderbird for years this way segregating e-mail accounts. I don't know if this will work for you.

Since Thunderbird is free, you might as well try it.

Do you trust the Apple Mail client?

Using proprietary applications makes me nervous since they so often end up doing bad things with your data.

And separate Address Books.

I didn't know that you could create new Address Books.

Am looking at things now, and I don't think your suggestion will work, because Thunderbird bases all Address Books at the root/Thunderbird level.

I'm looking in the preferences now, and I don't see where Thunderbird would know how to apply rules per email account.

It's probably just easier to create a separate TB Profile for each entity in my life.

Does anyone here have experience using Thunderbird Profiles?

I do.

You are using a proprietary OPERATING SYSTEM. Do you know what an operating system is? It's a big complicated program that lets other big complicated programs live together in relative peace on the same system.

If you don't trust proprietary software, why the hell are you using a system that uses macOS?

This makes ZERO sense.

I didn't know that you could create new Address Books.

You didn't even bother to give even the most cursory glance at the app's menu.

And it looks like you have made zero attempt at trying to get some of your questions answered at a Thunderbird-specific user forum.

I hereby bow out of any further participation in this thread.

It does make sense, because while I basically trust that macOS is safe, secure, and not spying on me, I am not so sure that certain applications from Apple can equally be trusted.

For all I know, Apple Mail could be uploading my emails to iCloud.

May seem paranoid, but then that is why I asked if you trust it.

Not so crazy...

What app are we talking about?

I DID look at what you said about File > New Address Book and I explained why it will not work.

Do you have the latest version of Thunderbird?

I do, and the menu choices won't help me because I'd still have the say issue of a global Address Book for separate email accounts.

If you're gonna berate me, at least be right on said topic.

And if I am still missing the obvious, then why not help me understand what you know that I do not...

You seem to be stuck in the past...

The Thunderbird forums went offline last year. And I searched the KB and didn't find any obvious answers.

@Erehy Dobon,

Why ragging on me when I have researched things and tried to apply your advice?
