i have just downloaded thunderbird, and having problems setting it up. currently i have a msn account, and want to use that w/ thunderbird. i have thunderbird set as a IMAP mail. under server settings, i have my server name as mail.msn.com and user name as myemail@msn.com. under outgoing SMTP, server and user name are the same. now is this set up correct, or do i need to change names? i've been to mozilla and there support/faq/formus, set it up like they say, and still no luck on getting this to work. it keeps saying "failed to connect to mail.msn.com" i know i got this set up wrong. any help would be great!

If it isn't connecting to the server, perhaps you have the server name wrong? Does MSN support IMAP? I don't know, since I don't use it, but those are the likely culprits in my opinion. Are there directions on MSN for how to set up a MUA to handle mail? Getting an IMAP or POP3 connection going is pretty generic from program to program, so I'd go straight to the horse's mouth and see what is there.

Let me know if you find more info and are still stuck.

Hmm, this is old, but maybe some of the programs work still ...

From what I can tell MSN uses some form of httpmail kind of like Hotmail. That means it won't be natively supported without a special extension in any program but Outlook, or maybe Entourage (I don't know about that, since I don't use it).

Maybe one of the above extensions will work for you.
