Got an older Mac that I want to hook some newer devices up to. I've only seen a couple of adapters and they only added one USB 3.0 type A port for around $75. Anybody know of some cheaper adapters/hubs?

P.S. Why are these things so rare and expensive?

To my understanding, it is a combination of needing the active cabling, licensing fees, and having a Thunderbolt chipset in the hub itself. The Kanex USB 3.0 + eSATA 6.0 adapters are the most economical ones I personally know of that function reliably.
