I have one of the early 2013 Mac Pros when they first came out. They had 6 Thunderbolt ports then. Later "2013" MPs have Thunderbolt 2 ports. I am wondering if that was new hardware or just software update. In other words, do I have Thunderbolt 1 or 2 ports on my MP 6,1?

I can't find a listing for an early Mac Pro 2013. The only listing is for a late 2013 Mac Pro and it has 6 x TB 2 ports. You have TB 2 ports.

(The 2012 Mac Pro does not have TB ports.)

It is indeed a "late 2013" Mac Pro. What I meant "early" is that it is the early year of the Mac Pro 6,1. It was listed as having 6 TB ports when I got it in March 2014. Is there a way to verify if it has TB or TB 2 ports.

They make SUCH good Plex servers, especially if you need Spouse Acceptance Factor in the living room.
[edit] and TB2 is still plenty of fast for most things. Keep it on High Sierra, stick a Quadra P2000 in an eGPU and your Plex ought to be able to serve a dormitory!

The hardware for the Late 2013 Mac Pro stayed the same from release to end of production except that they upgraded the SSD around 2015 (to SSUBX from SSUAX). They discontinued the 4 core model and came out with a standard 8 core model in 2017, but the hardware was still the same. They all have Thunderbolt 2.
