Hi,
I have a 15 inch retina MBP mid 2015 which has two thunderbolt 2 ports and two USB-3 ports and I recently purchased an external drive WD My Passport Ultra with USB-C/USB-3 connectors. Besides the fact that I can connect the drive to the MBP through USB-3, I would like to connect the external drive to the MBP through the thunderbolt port so I need an adaptor to connect the external drive to the MBP, plug the USB-C external drive to the Thunderbolt 2 port and take advantage of the much higher data transfer rates.
Is there an adaptor for that with thunder bolt 2 (male) and USB-C female?

Thanks!!!

Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports can output either a USB 3.1/2 or Thunderbolt 3 signal. The same was not true of Thunderbolt 2 ports. In order to get a USB3 signal, you'd have to get a TB2->USB3 adapter. The Kanex adapter $80 has been around for awhile, gofanco sells what is in essence a TB2 dock for $50 but I don't see that in the Thunderbolt site which lists certified products so you may be taking your chances there. You will see reduced USB 3 performance vs. the native USB port if you go down this route.

You'd need a USB-A -> USB-C adapter/cable if you want to hook up a USB-C 3.1/2 device.

There is no compact or cheap ($20 or under) solution for what you want to do that I'm aware of.

There's no point. The WD drive is not a Thunderbolt 3 device, merely just a USB C connector. So you would have no speed advantage.
