So I got a flashed Thunderbolt card of eBay. I highly recommend as it is a great card from a great vendor.

Trouble is, I am very new to this upgrade stuff and know even less about Thunderbolt.

It was easily installed. My machine (see pic) recognizes the card and the new-to-me Thunderbolt display (see pics). I am confident I hooked up correctly (see last pic), but the display shows no sign of life. Even the hard drive connected to it shows no sign of power.

Now it did not come with a power cable, so I used a generic power cord. But if getting power was the issue, how is the monitor recognized?

Hoping y'all have some troubleshooting tips!

Thanks!!!!

Try making sure the mDP to DP cable is in port 1 on the TB card (from pic, looks like it’s in port 2). I might also recommend plugging both displayport cables in from the gpu to tb card just to dummy proof make sure it’s not a cabling concern.

I got it to work. I had trouble following the steps in the other thread, so I kind of played around with it.

First, I new the power will be important. I didn’t the Pixla’s mod to provide power to the RX 580. I then connected the card to the pcie power. I used two mini 6 pin to 6 pin cables to do so.

Second, I have opencore installed and added the SSDT file.

While my Thunderbolt Display does work and have mic and camera working, it is not perfect. Cold booting does not have those on–I have to warm boot. Also, sometimes the display does not turn on after sleep, which can be fixed by simply disconnecting the display and reconnecting back.

I tried different SSDT files. The one in the main thread works best. I didn’t connect the card to another usb headers as some threads suggest.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
