I'm trying to daisy chain a Razer thunderbolt 4 dock with a cal digit element 4 hub so run 2 monitors, a couple usb-a peripherals etc. through my macbook pro with the single thunderbolt connection into the MBP.

What i'm finding is that any peripheral (like a webcam or logitech USB) that is not connected directly into the dock/hub that is directly connected to the MBP won't show up and work. i've tried it both ways with the hub directly connecting to the mac and the dock connected to the hub and vice versa. i can either set up to work so long as all the peripherals are connected to the dock/hub that is connected to the laptop but i can't get any of the peripherals that are connected to the daisy chained dock/hub to work.

is this not possible to do or am i doing something wrong?

I know you can daisy chain certain monitors, but I’m not 100% it works with hubs, especially if there not powered hubs.

I think you might be the first to try connecting two Thunderbolt 4 docks/hubs together.

What MacBook Pro are you using?

Did you try connecting MBP -> Razor -> CalDigit?

Did you try connecting MBP -> CalDigit -> Razor?

Each of those has a dedicated Thunderbolt port for connecting to the upstream device and three Thunderbolt ports for downstream devices. Both of them require an external power supply connection.

What appears in the Thunderbolt tab of System Information.app?

What appears in the USB tab of System Information.app?

What appears in the PCI tab of System Information.app?
