What do you think, will the Atv get an upgrade to have thunderbolt with the rest of the mac lineup? I was in the camp of not having an upgrade until 2012 for the atv, but with the a5 chip and now thunderbolt coming, will apple put a thunderbolt connection in the Atv and in the time capsule this year? This would give us external storage for the Atv and stream 1080p with now delay. Also do you see it coming to the Airport Extreme?

using thunderbolt on an appletv for storage, would be like using a fire hose to fill a tea cup. USB2 is more than capable of delivering the bandwidth necessary for playing a movie, and much more available in the current market.
The AppleTV is marketed as a home entertainment device, thunderbolt (display port) is more for computer monitors. Don't see them leaving HDMI as the video connection, as that's what all new TVs and home entertainment systems are coming with.

No need for that kind of speed, on anything but direct attached storage. if you had it on a time capsule, you limiting factor would be the network, and since it seems like the majority of people using airport extremes are just connecting via wireless, it would be way overkill.

With Blu-Ray video tapping out at about 50mb/s, USB2 has plenty of bandwidth to provide that to the ATV. But let's not forget, an ATV2 does not (out of the box) allow you to use direct attached storage. Further, Display port, which is not thunderbolt dependent, is not found in television as of yet so offering a displayport would be pointless.

Mark this thread dead please.

Firewire 800 has been out for quite a while, was developed by apple, and there are numerous drives available with that interface, but it hasn't show up on the airport extremes yet.

People that need that kind of speed on a network share aren't buying apple networking gear.

Time Capsule is getting Thunderbolt

The Time Capsule will get Thunderbolt, I just received this in the mail from a guy calling himself "Pixelmator"
