I'm using a mid2011 Mini base model.
I'm very curious about Thunderbolt in general, and Thunderbolt HDs in particular.
I currently have 2 3tb external drives connected, 1 USB 2.0 and another Firewire 800. They are mostly used for storing video files for Plex.
One drive is for movies the other TV shows. The FW800 drive also is for Time Machine backups.
Since my collection is growing crazy fast, I'm going to be needing more storage soon.
I guess my questions are 1 technical and the other usability,
If I get the Seagate GoFlex 3tb External Thunderbolt drive, can I connect the monitor to the second Thunderbolt port on the drive?
I currently have my monitor connected via the DisplayPort to DVI adapter. My HDMI port is used as a second display to my TV.
And will using a Thunderbolt drive improve anything for me vs getting another FW 800 drive? The TB drive will be close to $380 and a FW800 drive will be around $170.
I have no issues currently when playing any media, including 1080p content stored on the USB2 drive. Either to the TV attached to my Mini or my 2 Roku boxes. Though it takes a bit to first start playing probably due to the drive going to sleep and having to be spun up.
Any opinions would be very appreciated.
Heres the Thunderbolt HD I'm looking at:
