I did a bit of research, and it looks like if I want to use my 2011 27" iMac in target display mode, I'm pretty much out of luck since there's no way to get thunderbolt into the cMP.

It works just fine with my 2011 MBP and my 2012 MBA, but it'd be nice to upgrade my 24" Dell on my cMP to a pretty 27" screen for photoshopping.

You didn't ask a question in your post, but if you're wondering if there's a way to add Thunderbolt to a Mac Pro, it's impossible.

AFAIK, target display mode do not require Thunderbolt, but just display port.
Unfortunately, I picked up a 2011 model that's thunderbolt-only. Maybe I'll be able to get ahold of a 2010 model one of these days...

Right, I wanted you all to confirm my conclusion that thunderbolt on cMP is no joy.
