Thunderbolt or USB 3 enclosure that support 2 computers at the same time?

I will have mac mini (developer) and Windows (brother, photographer) very close to each other. Both need to expand our storage, so maybe a NAS will work.

However, I need fast storage and the windows only bigger. So, a normal NAS will not cut it.

Exist a not-ver-expensive enclosure/nas that work at least with USB 3/ssd that both can connect? We prefer to have separate disk for each, so at least 1 per OS formatted for it.

Of course, we could buy separated enclosures, but wonder if exist this option.

Even if you managed to get it to work I would absolutely recommend you not to do such a thing with direct-attached storage cabinets.

You basically have two options that could fulfil your requirements:
- Two separate direct attached storage cabinets; one for each computer, configured according to your respective needs.
- A NAS or file server, possibly with different types of disks (mechanical drives for bulk storage, and SSDs for speed), and, if you need the throughput, 10 Gbps ethernet connections between your computers and the server.

Don't forget to invest in good backup storage (and possibly off-site backups) in addition to the production storage you choose to buy.

You can either buy separate enclosures or use a NAS. You cannot directly connect two computers to the same disk and not have data loss.

The USB3 connection on such boxes is for connecting additional drives, not for connecting a computer to the NAS.

You need fast storage and the other computer only needs more? Get a Thunderbolt/USB 3 enclosure to connect to the Mac, partition it and setup File Sharing...
