hello, is there a cable that has been already made to where it converts thunderbolt 2 to thunder bolt3? i dont want to spend $100 on a thunderbolt 2 cable and a thunderbolt adapter from apple. or is that my only option?

afaik it is the only option ... there are other cable manufacturers, there is also Startech TB3->TB2 adapter ... but it's not bidirectional - you can only connect TB1/2 peripherals to TB3/4 device

Apple's cables are known to work the best, also their TB2<->TB3 adapter IS bidirectional

buy used ... e.g. I bought the 2m TB2 Apple cable for like $15 ... basically unused

thanks for the response, is that star tech adapter compatible with egpus? where can i get a used thunderbolt 2 cable? i do not want to spend hundreds of dollars purchasing two cables. its ridiculous. im going to need two thunder bolt 2 cables, i did find a really good deal on a thunderbolt dock from mercari for $20. im buying it tomorrow. i dont use ebay i got screwed out off $5,000 and they wont pay me back. so ebay is a no go for me.

welp I can't tell you for sure whether that's gonna work...

I got my cable from FB marketplace ... but just search local listing depending where you live... every country gotta have some kind of website where people list their stuff (craigslist etc.)

Also you're mentioning a dock and two thunderbolt cables - what device do you have and what dock you're planning to use ? note that eGPU has to be the first device in thunderbolt chain

Maybe try to elaborate more on the whole setup

Yep so I’m setting up the Egpu on my MacBook Pro to do gaming and run multiple monitors, it’s going to be docking station goes into the Egpu pass through port and the Egpu plugs into the 2013 15” MacBook Pro.

I would buy ONLY the Apple tbolt2-tbolt3 adapter. No 3rd party cable.
And yes, I WOULD pick up a used one on ebay.
