My client want a Thunderbolt RAID with
- more than 5 drives
- RAID6 + Hot spare
- Fast and quiet for 2K and 4K editing
- Does not need enterprise HDD

Currently there is three models in market:

ARECA - ARC-8050 Thunderbolt
Cost $1500.00+ tax and shipping plus 6x 4TB Hitachi 7200rpm @ $210/ea
Total of $2760.00

Promise Tech - Pegasys R6
Cost $3500.00+ tax and shipping

DATOptic - TB-S6.TB
Cost $1900.00+ tax and shipping plus 6x 4TB Hitachi 7200rpm @ $210/ea
Total = 3160.00

Of course i want to get the best for money.

Anyone have experience on these RAID, please give me some suggestion.
Especially on Pegasus R6 - can i just replace an Desktop 4TB when is failed or I have to get Promise HDD?

TIA

You get a free iPad with the ARECA at newegg. ARECA is a solid Mac brand, good hardware, fast. Plenty of favorable reviews. The thing is fast supporting editing.

Web seems to be full of pegasys hate.

Oh if you want quiet, pick lower power 4200 rpm drives (not green of course). The storage box fans won't run as much, if they use temp sensors like most.

Thunderbolt project update

Thank you very much! Just have a game change from client.

He wants at lease 8 bays, so the Pegasys is out of the picture.

I may get both systems and test it to see how each goes.

A bit painful and time consuming, but I guess that is part of my job.

@ ColdCase - what is the model? doesn't 7200rpm HDD's power consumption pretty much the same? BTW I like ARECA too
