Tidy Up: (OSStatus error 640)

Hi,

After i've searched for duplicate items on my external hard drive, and click to delete them and replace them with aliases with the app "Tidy Up", I get this error after some time:


Execution stopped after getting error:

The operation couldn't be completed.
(OSStatus error 640.)


When I search this error appears to mean "invalid BackingFileID", but another site says it means "NSFileWriteOutOfSpaceError", but I don't know what this means or what I can do to fix this error.

Does anybody have any suggestions for me?

So you find duplicate files and delete them. Why are you replacing them with aliases? Aliases to what?

I have multiple backups from over the years and the hard-drive is full so I need to create space. I have some control over which duplicates I remove, but ultimately sometimes the ones in the 'right place' will get removed. The alias will be created by the software to the one file that will not be removed. So the 'places' stay in tact, with an alias to one real file.

Am I reading this right, you have multiple backups on one drive? You don't have a 3-3-3 or 3-3-2 backup strategy?

As for the drive being full, with the cost of even 16 TB drives dropping isn't it worth it to get a hard disk with the appropriate size so you don't have to go through this hassle?
