TIFF reverse?

I have used HP printers for many years. Since last year, I am trying to be more digital in my work. (I write reports and need to keep records, so all of my work is text based.)

Both my previous and current printer have the option to save faxes as they come in, as part of the digital archive. However, they stayed in the TIFF format. When they are saved, they are reversed with regard to black and white. The background of the page shows as black and the font or print shows as white. Is there any simple way to reverse this? I am afraid if I want to print anything, it will use half the in cartridge by printing the page space.

I tried to save as a PDF, but it saves in the same black white format. Is there any program I can use to convert these files or pages? I need a program that will reverse the black-and-white image so that the background is white and the text is black.

Julie,

You can use Apple's Preview app to do this. I don't know which OS you are using but it works for me on Tiger and it should work on newer versions as well (although the steps might be a little different, they should be similar). If you open the file in Preview and then go to Tools/Image correction, you will see an image palette. From there you can click on the White-Point (which will open up the colors palette) and you can set the white point to black and then set the Black-Point to white and your image will be reversed.

Or if you prefer to use Photoshop, you can open your Tiff file and the go to Image/adjustments/invert and it will reverse the colors. I would guess that Gimp would also do it but I don't use Gimp and so I don't know for sure. I would guess that most basic image editors would allow you to do this, in case you don't have Photoshop.

I tried...

WHen I open Preview-> Tools... I don't see a selection for image correction (OS 10.7, Lion).

I see adjust color, but nothing like you describe...

(I don't have and don't work with Photoshop.)

I'm on Snow Leopard, and when I select Adjust Color, I get a new window. At the top has a rectangle with histograms in it, with 3 sliders under it. Move the left slider all the way right and the right slider all the way left, and it'll work (I find it easier to actually move one about three quarters of the way, then move the other all the way, then move the first the rest of the way, otherwise the sliders overlap). Not sure if it is the same on lion, but we have the same option (Adjust Color), so maybe?

Thank you so much, the issue was so frustrating!!! It seems silly to have the software save that way, and require these extra steps. There must be a programming reason..

but that works just fine!
