Hi I have a query I'm hoping a mac expert can answer. I have a 2011 imac with Yosemite. However I have some old software I would like to use and wanted to partition the imac and add Tiger on the other partition. I have the Tiger install disks from my old G5, I partitioned the imac but it would not recognise the install disk for Tiger. I think this happened as Tiger is PowerPC and the imac is Intel. My question is, has anyone sucessfully installed Tiger on the imac and if so how? Many thanks in advance.

OS X.4 Tiger came in a version for PowerPC Macs, and a version for Intel machines. Just be sure you get the correct version (OSX.4.4 or later) and ensure it is a full retail install version. Never the silver grey system install discs which are extremely model specific.

Tiger isn't going to run on a 2011 iMac.
That is to say, you can't use it to boot and run the iMac.
That version of the OS is too old.

You -might- be able to install and run Tiger this way:
1. Install a "virtual machine" such as Parallels or VMWare fusion (or the free "Virtual Box")
2. Install Tiger into a virtual machine
3. Run it that way (even if you get it running, it may "not be enough" to do everything you need to do).

Fishrrman is right.

You might be able to run the software you want using Snow Leopard, either on a separate partition or in a VM. I have a VM of Snow Leopard just for that reason.
