I'm trying to do a clean install of Tiger prior to selling the G4 Mini in my sig. I stick the Tiger DVD in, click on the install icon, type in my password, and the computer restarts. I get the gray screen with the apple logo and the spinning gear for a few minutes, and then the screen goes completely black, as if it's turned off. In fact, according to the power light on the ACD, the screen is indeed off. The only thing I can do is manually restart and eject the cd through the firmware prompt.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

The screen went blank?? Thats odd.

Try this;
Put the CD in the mini (don't press the install icon)
Restart
Hold down C after the startup sound

It should load installation wizard. When I reinstalled on my mini (its intel mind you) it went straight into the installation wizard.

Actually just tried that, iDuck, thanks. Same thing happened, unfortunately.

But, I used the install disks that came with the mini, and it's working. I'm an idiot.

Ah, yes. You're not supposed to try and install an earlier version of OSX than what came with the machine.
