Does anybody have Tiger running on a B&W G3? Is it running stable? I was thinking about purchasing one off of eBay. Just wanted to know before purchasing. Thanks.

Yes it will run fine, the only problem is you need a bootable DVD-rom to install tiger and these never shipped with B&W's so you will need to get a bootable DVD-rom to replace the CD-rom so you can install the OS. When runnning tiger make sure you have at least 512mb ram in the machine so it can run tiger efficiently....

you will have to think about

getting an upgraded video card too, the rage that was in those shouldnt support Quartz. unless its over 16 megs....but really 32 megs realistically to work properly

That too is a good upgrade but I have run Tiger fine on a 16mb graphics card the animation is a bit sluggish but the OS is still very useable..

Yes, I have Tiger Server running on a B/W/G3-400 with 512mb and the stock video card. It runs very well and has been up continuously since I installed it (just over a month now).

I know I am resurrecting a dead thread, but I figured that'd be better than starting a new one. Today, I decided to put 10.3.9 back on my eMac (Panther is fine for what I do. I didn't use many of Tigers added features) and gave my friend Tiger for Christmas. Well, he has a B&W G3 350MHz and he put a Combo drive in it from the PC that he had before he got the B&W. Apparently, the driver isn't compatible with OS X because he can't burn CD's with it. Well, I went up there earlier to try and install Tiger on it and it wouldn't let me boot from the CD. My question is, is that because of the driver not being compatible with OS X? I figure that's what the problem is, but I just wanted to make sure. Also, does anyone know of any good Combo drives that would work with OS X? I'm thinking about trying to find him one on eBay. Thanks in advance, guys.
