Tiger resetting settings

I have a problem, tiger keeps on resetting some settings I have for it, namely in the keyboard settings. Randomly (however incredibly often) when I restart it, or turn it off and then on again later it'll make the back button on my mouse boot up spotlight, and the f11 and f12 keys will be in conflict with eachother. I'll change the settings back to normal, everything works, but the next time I restart or something it does the same damn thing all over again, any ideas how to fix this? thanks!

for that matter how often am I supposed to do that? 0o

It doesn't have to be done very regularly and they need a password to be changed by an app AFAIK meaning that you really only ever need to do it after installing an app.

Go to Disk Utility in your Utilities folder within the Applications folder. Select your hard drive on the left and then click Repair Permission down the bottom.

Is your computer older? This sounds like a dead motherboard battery to me. There is a little battery that sits on the motherboard that keeps the PRAM powered for storing settings. Things like the date, your choice of highlight color and several other things. If this battery dies you can get some really bizarre behavior or just lose your settings upon every shutdown or restart.

The battery is a simple lithium battery that should last several years.

well repairing the permissions didn't work =/ turned it off for the night and the same thing happened again.

and no, the comp isn't old, it's a powerbook I got in Feb of this year

This is kind of a long stretch, but do you by chance have FileVault turned on?
