Hi all,
I’m new to MacOS (m1 mbp) and so far loving it compared to windows.

Is it possible to create an additional desktop ‘space’ and tile two programs side by side in it? When I’ve tried to it insists on creating another ‘space’ for the two tiled programs.

Hi, I understand how to split view but my question is can you do it in a desktop space? When I try it from a newly created ‘Desktop 2’ it tiles the programs in a new space.

Apologies, I don’t know how to describe it any better.

Full screened (and double-fullscreened) programs get their own space. There's no "tiling" on the desktop space, unless you manually do it.
Though there are apps like Magnet and BetterSnapTool that add this functionality (available on App Store)

Thanks. It would be nice to tile on the desktop but I understand when you either tile or full screen a program it uses the whole screen. I’ll take a look at the apps you suggest.

It's not really something I personally like to do. I am not a big fan of the whole tiling thing, compared to content fitting window sizes. But I've heard good things about those apps and they've been recommended by Apple's App Store Editorial team as well for window management with lots of customisations like hot corners, keyboard shortcuts and loads of options for how to tile things

If you install BetterSnapTool, the window management will work like every other operating system has for years. I genuinely wouldn't use macOS at all without it as the default management is insufferable. I think I paid a few bucks for it many years ago and it still works great.

It lets you snap windows to the sides, corners, and top to maximize without going into its own "space".
