does anybody recommend a timbuk2 bag, for a macbook pro? I will be taking it to my friends house's, coffee shops, and maybe school somtimes. The timbuk2 bags look pretty cool.

I have one for my 15" Powerbook, and it's pretty awesome. I've had it a few years, and it shows almost no wear. Get the waterproof kind if you can, I've been biking in most insane weather, and it all stayed safe and dry.

I've never used a Timbuk2 for laptops, but they are pretty much the bag of choice for bicycle messengers. I was one for three years in Chicago, and it was super reliable, especially when any water damage to a letter or package could get you in deep trouble. They are durable, very waterproof, and high quality in craftmanship. You get what you pay for. A good choice.
 
i highly recomend Timbuk2. I ahve their laptop messenger bag for my 15'' powerbook and i love it. it has enough room to fit my paper and small textbooks and all of my equitment. i love it. It is very durable as well
 
I just got back from a lunch time trip to REI. They carry the Timbuk2 Commute and Commute XL bag. According to Timbuk2's site the MBP will fit in the Commute - I don't have mine yet or I would've checked the fit. If your a member of/or join the REI co-op you can get 20% Off a single item until April. All in all a pretty good deal. I'm going to pick one up later in the week.
 
yeah, I'd definately reccomend them!

I have an outtawhack daypack, and it's awesome! It has a corduroy lined section (also very padded on the back) for the laptop, and has a side pocket inside that section that my 12" powerbook fits into perfectly. It then has another section that I use for my sketchbook , notebooks, binders etc. It has a pocket on the side of that section too. Then it has the underflap pocket which has a corduroy pocket for my ipod (and the headphones can thread out through the bag so you can listen to it when the bag is closed. It also has backpack straps, a 'briefcase' type handle, and a shoulder strap :D It's awesome!
 
well it really depends on what you want it for. The one I have (outtawhack daypack) has enough room for .. example- if you worked in an office and wanted to keep your macbook pro, and a bunch of your files, plus your camera and ipod, it would work well for that. But if you don't want to carry too much besides the bag, then there are smaller ones like the commute would work better for you... What will you be using it for?

the powerbook is just pre-intel version of the macbook pro. the only problem with one for a 15" powerbook is that the macbook pro is slightly larger.

i do love my timbuk2 bag. It isn't big enough for me to carry on my "long" trips, but is fine if i am just taking my powerbook, charger, and a few discs.
 
I will mainly be taking my macbook to my friend's house's, coffee shops,and maybe school. I have an ipod i take everywhere. I also dont want it to get wet. I think the timbuk2 bags look pretty cool.
right now I'm leaning twards The "laptop messanger" model

:confused: Help what? You've been told Timbuk's are great bags (I'm planning to get one soon myself probably). Just call them up and ask which bags will hold your MBP. You'll notice on their site that they list their bag sizes according to apple specs, so they should be pretty capable of figuring out which ones will hold an MBP.

Then decide which one fits your needs best (backpack, messenger bag, laptop bag?). Or, go to REI or somewhere similar and put your hands on one.
 
Their site has been updated to show which models fit the MacBook Pro. I ordered a Commute yesterday. I looked at them at REI Monday and was impressed with the quality and features. It's about 300 Cubic Inches bigger than my current Land's End freebie and offers much better protection.

I was leaning towards one of their custom messengers and a seprate protective sleeve, but I found a great deal on the Commute and couldn't pass it up.
 
i own the commute XL (? i forget - its one size larger than the commute, for 17 inch) for my 15 inch powerbook. i got it because the commute for 15'' doesn't hold additional stuff too well.

it is a great bag. highly recommended.
 
For those of you with the Commute, how much protection is there for the laptop on the sides and front? The Timbuk2 site says it's padded on the back, but doesn't say much about the rest of it. Thanks.
 
Well, it's got good padding on the back, and the inside has like a padded sleeve that the Powerbook fits into. It has space on the sides before the actual bag lining itself, so that offers some extra protection. It's also got a firm bottom part so that the bag holds its shape. Again, I've really abused my bag in the worst weather and thrown it around a lot with my Powerbook in there, and it's held up great, and my Powerbook has been fine. I would recommend these bags to anyone.
 
Thanks for the info, I just ordered a Commute. Can't wait, my MBP had to ride around in a crappy Targus bag that I've had since Bush 41 was in office. Needless to say, it was designed to handle a laptop with a much blockier shape... :)

I've got (and love) the commute, and my wife is thinking about getting the Outtawhack bag.

Question about the Outtawhack bag: Is the bag tilted at an angle when using the backpack straps? Based on the pictures online it looks kinda awkward to wear on your back. Has this been anyone's experience?
