Hi all,

I’ve just noticed my time and date are wrong on my laptop. It’s current saying it’s 19 Aug 2023 and it’s 14:52. I’m based in the UK and so that’s not correct for time, let alone the date!

I’ve restarted my laptop and it’s still saying the same. Software is up to date and running on Sonoma 14.1.1.

All the settings are set to auto-update so unsure why its done this…

The laptop was dead and at 0% when I turned it on plugged in.

Also, my laptop has been so sluggish and behaving strange such as putting the password in and then the loading bar finishing then getting a blank screen with just the mouse pointer.

Could anyone suggest a fix? It won’t let me browse while it’s wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Do you often allow your battery to go completely dead?
Or, is this a recent change? Slow operation can be a symptom of a battery that is dead or dying.
How old is your laptop?
How long does it run when you are running on battery only, or does it simply shut off when you unplug the charger?
Open your System Information app - scroll to Power.
What is the "Full Charge Capacity? Then look under Health Information
What is the "Cycle Count?"

I presume you mean Sonoma 14.4.1.... otherwise, no, you're not up to date.

Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Turn off Automatic; set your location first and then manually set date & time. That should sort Safari.

Then, if you are actually on Sonoma 14.1.1 - Settings > General > Software Update

Then, restart the Mac (Apple menu > Restart) and set it back to automatic, it should remain correct. If it doesn't, likely a VPN you've installed is causing trouble; reply with detail & I'm sure we can sort it.

1. What model of laptop?

2. Have you attempted a PRAM/SMC reset (if an Intel-based machine) or booting the machine into safe mode?
