Hi all!

I use Nest Wifi at home with the base Wifi hub being in the same location as my desktop (Mac Studio). I also have a Time Capsule connected via an ethernet cable to the Nest Wifi base that is used for my families Time Machine backups (multiple computers backing up wirelessly to it).

So..

Nest WiFi Hub -> Ethernet cable -> Time Capsule

The Mac Studio is connected to the network wirelessly, but I would like to make it wired. The problem is that the Nest Wifi hub only has one outbound ethernet port to use, and that is being used by the Time Capsule.

What are my options here, if any? Is there a simple hub I could use where I could run an ethernet cable from the Nest WiFi into the hub, and then the Mac Studio and Time Capsule into the hub?

I don't want to mess with trying to make the Time Capsule connect wirelessly to the network as that is what I initially tried and I could not get it to work reliably. I also need something that is as dead-nuts reliable as possible as one of my least favorite things is trying to diagnose wifi issues (and my work and my wife's work depend on us having reliable wifi).

Any help is appreciated!

Any switch ought to work I guess. Doesn't the time capsule have ethernet ports too?

Yes -- this is exactly what an unmanaged network switch will do for you. They are inexpensive and require no configuration. They typically have 5 or more Ethernet ports and an external "wall wart" type power supply. Remember one port will be the "in" port connected to your Nest device, one will be used by your Studio, one by your existing TC. That leave two extra (for a 5-port switch). (EDIT: maybe use one for the 2010 Mac Pro in your signature!)

You want a device capable of Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbps) speeds (which is nearly all of them). Here's an example at amazon. I didn't do any research so I'm not saying this is the "best" one to get, but it should work just fine.

I will research network switches! I feel like I am already playing with fire by having a Time Capsule hooked up to a Google wifi network :D

is the time capsule the "official apple" time capsule (and not sold anymore), or just hard drive that you are using as NAS with the time machine protocols?

Yeah, a real Apple Time Capsule. I also have a hard drive plugged into it for additional space.

Thanks, that is helpful. Seems as if they are plentiful! I'll take a look.
