If I plug my AppleTV into a Time Capsule and tell itunes to sync them with a wireless Macbook, will they be smart enough to communicated directly (via ethernet), or will the information be transmitted wirelessly to my Macbook and then to the AppleTV?

Edit:
I should mention my movies and music will be stored on the Time Capsule.

No it doesn't work that way. The Apple TV must get its content from the iTunes library in streaming mode which must be running on the MacBook. You can't stream directly from Time Capsule.

I had a drive connected to my AEBS once that housed my iTunes library. It worked but was slow. With your setup, Time Capsule would wirelessly send to the MB which would then wirelessly send back to Time Capsule then ethernet to your :apple:TV. It would not go directly from Time Capsule to :apple:TV.

That's too bad. I knew I would need iTunes to manage the files, but I hoped the Time Capsule and AppleTV would be "smart" enough to know they're plugged into eachother.

Ah well, thanks for your help!

maybe you should check this link

this worked for me...I have all my movies and tv shows on an external back up drive...I have it synced to my Apple TV...it streams right into the external drive through itunes...none of my movie files are saved on my Imac or Apple TV everything is in my external hard drive...it works perfectly!!!

I'm assuming you can do that with time capsule as well...just follow the instructions on the link...it should work if that is what you are looking to do

I think you have referenced the wrong thread. Can you please verify what you wanted us to look at?
