what is the "time capsule" for ? does it act like the hardisc ?

It's also a Wi-Fi router, it's an AirPort Extreme with a built in hard drive.

You can use any internal/external drive. It backs up all your data including your operating system and preferences. You can enter time machine at any time and bring back files you have deleted. The bigger the backup drive... the further back in time you can go.

I set mine to back up my system drive (OSX + Apps) and my working drive. All finished work is backed up off site.

I use to back up files individually but now i just plug in my external drive (2TB FW800) and let it back up every hour. It doesn't duplicated everything every hour, just the changes.

The OP is asking about "Time Capsule" not "Time Machine".

so is it better if i only select the 256GB SSD without the 2TB ATA when i customize the iMac and buy a 2TB Time Capsule separately ?
or just select the 2TB ATA + 256GB SSD and forget about the Time Capsule ?

Hmm..... I'd say you NEED a backup, but capsules have some reliability issues and when introduced by jobs were aimed at the notebook users....

I'm not sure but I think accessign the TC will be slower than accessing a local 2TB HDD, so that is another problem...

If I were you id get a 256+2TB and an external FW800 drive for ur TM backup!

Do you need a router? Have you got more than one computer in your home?

A Time Capsule might be overkill if you only want an external hard drive. A USB or FireWire external drive might meet your needs and will be a lot cheaper.

i'm currently owning 2 laptops ( one for private and one for uni stuff ) , and if i were to buy the iMac, it would make 3..

You could benefit from using a Time Capsule. Have a look at the links I posted above and this one describing setting it up. You can also plug a printer into the Time Capsule and share that with your 3 computers.

If you live near to an Apple Store, it might be worth booking a Personal Shopping appointment when you buy your iMac. They can explain and demonstrate the features of the Time Capsule and even help you with the set up.

arggg..i still can't decide what to do..256GB SSD + Time Capsule or 2TB ATA + 256GB SSD..i will broke if i order the 2TB ATA + 256GB SSD + Time Capsule..LOL

Just get a firewire hd, timecapsule takes hours to back up my data, I set it up right before I go to sleep and it's done by the time I wake up. Not sure exactly when it's done, but I tend to have alot of new media on every week.
