Last night there was some freakishly violent thunderstorms and lightning hit behind my house and my home windows PC got fried. so I guess I have a reason to invest in another mac PC but I do not know which one to get I have it down to the Imac 20" or the Mac mini dual core the new processors dont worry as much as it is with me waiting for the meron MBP's. this will be for websurfing and email and downloading song, and tv and movie torrents.

I figured the Imac for it having a bigger processor?

a mini with 2 GB of RAM should work fine for all those tasks, but if you want the all-in-one design, more power, and to pay a bit more, then get the imac.

If those are the only things you are doing an Imac whether you buy it now or after Conroe will suit you super. Unless you want portability in which I would recommend a MB.

If you have a nice screen already, the Mac Mini Core Duo with minimum 1 Gig RAM will be perfect (I love mine). Without a screen at hand, I would opt for the 20" iMac, personally.

I will be ordering a MBP after the release of the meron chips for work so I dont need a MB or MBP, I just need a replacement for my Desktop PC

I have a 17" LCD screen if I get the Mac mini but would the Imac's processor power be a big or small step up from the mac mini or would it really make a difference?

Not much of a difference for what you do really.

2Gbs will be more then enought...1Gb would be fine

ok well a mac mini it is with a mini stack and a HDD for space. thanks for all the replies.

I just called my local mac store as soon as I leave work I will be stopping by and snagging me a new Mac Mini core duo and some extra ram and the 500 gig HDD for the mini stack and I just placed my order for a mini stack about 5 mins ago.

GOD I LOVE MACS :)
