Hi,
My hardware config is as follows;
I use an iMac from early 2011 and a 13" Macbook Air from late 2010. I have a 1Tb Seagate Firewire drive linked to the iMac. The Seagate is partitioned so that TM can use one partition to back up the iMac and another to back up the MacAir.
Here's the issue;
On 10.8.3 I had difficulty getting TM on the MacAir to see the backup partition quite a bit. On 10.8.4 it worked fine for the first few backups and then I started having real issues with it. Eventually, Finder in the MacAir showed the partitions on the Seagate with a '-1' after them but the backup worked.
A few days ago even that stopped working. So I deleted the Macair backup partition on the Seagate and created it fresh with a different name. Now the Macair (Finder) still shows the old names with the '-1' after them even though one pf them has been deleted and recreated with a different name. I have tried rebooting both the Macair and the iMac several time with no effect.
The iMac TM uses the Seagate with no problems by the way. Both machines are on OS X 10.8.4.
My questions are as follows;
How can I get the Macair to see the correct names of the Seagate partitions in Finder?
Is there a way to totally reset the sharing and Time Machine settings so that I can start from a clean slate?
Finally, does anyone else have these issues? I'm surprised that an Apple product is so unreliable.
