I am trying to back up my M1, 2020 MacBook Pro via Time Machine and it is failing. I have tried different external drives, but nothing has worked. I starts, but shortly after that it fails. Is there logs that can tell why this is failing. Could there be a file or files on the computer that is causing this. Is there an alternate program to Time Machine that could be used to back up and restore to a different MAC. Thanks for any assistance or advice.

".. it is failing." Can you post text or screenshot of the specific error you see in the Time Machine panel of System Preferences app?

I ended up resolving this issue by using a USB-C connected External Hard drive, instead of a USB. All set now.
