Time Machine back up is 7 times the size of my hard drive

Hi All:

All of my time machine back ups are not working. Time machine wants to do a 3.8TB back up of my 1TB drive that is only half full.

I read that having multiple time machine back ups might cause this so I eliminated all of them and then used a newly formatted drive. The initial back up was calculated to be 3.8TB.

I read that virtual machines can cause this but I am not running any.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Since that can't be right, just let it run and see what happens.
