Hi

I have time-machine backup that i do once a month; My last backup is on catalina and now i've installed PB of big sur.
Question I have is, if I do the backup now, will it be compatible with catalina if something goes wrong and I need to revert back to the old operating system?

Or

Shall I just hold off the backup till final release of Big Sur ?

thx.

I tried Big Sur PB but discovered that there were too many bugs in it. So I restored the mac to Mojave from a CCC clone.

After a reboot, I received a message about an incompatible disk, this message shows up on every reboots. It all resulted in that having to reinstall Mojave from Recovery mode and then put back my CCC clone. So now everything works again.

so looks like it was a one-way ticket; lets hope i can continue to work and don't have to restore back to old version.

Pick up a new drive for Big Sur backups

And you can experiment with APFS containers for the backup. I chose to partition my backup HDD - one partition formatted HFS+ (Catalina backups) and the other APFS (Big Sur backups). The new backups are much quicker.
