Lightning struck on our block a couple nights ago. My Airport Extreme was fried, along with a couple other things, including my Comcast modem.

I happened to have a brand new Airport Extreme in a box that I'd never used, so I plugged that in to the new Comcast modem and all was well with my Wi-Fi.

Now Time Machine on my Macbook Air and iMac can't see my WD external drive that I have connected to Airport Extreme for Time Machine backups. It's not available in the Airport Utility either.

If I plug the hard drive directly into my iMac it reads fine.

Any ideas? Could the USB port on the brand new but old Airport Extreme be busted?

Is the replacement AirPort Extreme the AC (Tower) or dual-band N square? if its the Square shaped one it may not pick up a time machine drive correctly...though it should pick up a connect drive none the less.
I'd try another drive if you can to the AEBS
