I installed el capitan rc today but stumbled over a bug in Photoshop which made me decide to restore my machine to my previous backup with Yosemite right away. Unfortunately I've tried now to restore back to my two previous backups but both get stuck on the apple logo boot screen after a successful time machine restore. The loading bar stops at about 50% and stay there forever. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Or know if there's been any problems reverting back to Yosemite after using el capitan? I'm trying now to revert back to the latest el capitan backup but if that doesn't work I'm getting really frustrated...
Any tips from anyone? Help plz!
That should work fine. Can you explain how you did it?
Assuming your TM backup is to a local USB disk, you can option key boot to that disk and you will see the recovery screen. From there start Disk Utility and go to the erase tab and select the drive brand name at the very top of the left column like Seagate 1TB or whatever). Once that is selected erase the entire disk to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then quit DU and click restore. Once you do that a screen will come up that shows restore points. Scroll down that list to a restore point that was still under Yosemite and then go ahead with the restore.
When you try to erase the disk, you may see that the drive brand name is not there, and it may say "Macintosh HD" there twice one under the other. If you see that, open Terminal from the Utilities menu (still in recovery) and enter the command below to remove the Macintosh HD core storage volume. Then proceed with the erase.
Code:
diskutil cs delete "Macintosh HD"
