If I reduce the size of my MacBook Pro 16 inch 8 TB drive to 3TB and create a 5TB HFS+ partition, can I use that for Time Machine?
Please note that I have an external backup solution (not Time Machine), so my question is not about the 'real' backups at my office. I travel a lot, and I'd like to have an 'in-between' solution and Time Machine would be convenient.

Yes that should work OK - although personally I would rather purchase a Samsung T5 and use that instead of of using more then half my internal drive for backups.....

If something happened to your main drive you wouldn't be able to access TM on it?? Unless you are only concerned about retrieving accidentally deleted documents....

That's the idea.
