Time Machine Backup Shows All Apps With Circles on Them Cannot View App Want to Transfer apps From Backup Onto New Mac Mini

I have a new mac mini 2018 that I would like to transfer some apps to from a time machine backup of my other mac, but when I plugged in the drive that I have the backups on, and looked for in finder, all the apps show as greyed out with circles in them.

Specifically, I would like to transfer some virtual machines that I had installed via Parallels desktop, and I was trying to access these from my time machine backup, but it looks like all my apps are blank, or missing.

I found the built in migration assistant, and got my apps back to my mac mini this way, was this a good way of doing this?

Yes, migration assistant is the best way of migrating apps (and data) from one machine to another using TM.
