Hi
i've been noticing when TM starts doing the hourly backup to external HDD, the usb keyboard typing hangs for a 1/2 seconds and then resumes what i've written.
(both usb keyboard and E-HDD are connected on different usb ports.)

May be the process to backup cause this temporary hangs ?

Not big issue, just wondering since i've been noticing it a lot lately.

Yup, it does use some resources, if your Mac is lacking CPU or memory, it could be noticeable.

I use a free app called Time Machine Editor and set it to run nightly when I am not using the Mac. Been using this for 5+ years and it works flawlessly. It doesn't change the TM functionality, it just runs it on the schedule you set. The app also allows you to set it to run when the Mac is inactive, or to exclude certain times of the day. Very flexible.

Most of us are good with daily versus hourly backups, but it does come with a slight risk. If you create or edit files during the day then have an issue, your latest work may be lost. But, for me, I store a good amount of my data in iCloud, or network shares so I am less concerned about hourly backups, in fact I exclude these from Time Machine anyway..
