Is it OK to change the name of a boot disk that time machine is backing up? I had been backing up a disk called Boot, did a clean install on a new disk named Macintosh HD and migrated my data from the old disk. Can I just add "Macintosh HD" to time machine prefs for backup and continue using the same backup?

It uses the "computer name" from the sharing pref pane to ID TM backups, so I think you should be okay just changing the volume name.

Thanks! So as long as I'm backing up the computer with that name, which was set when I migrated settings and data into the clean install, it will just consider the new disk as being the same system? That makes it super easy. I do love my Macs.
